Today the Union Jack flies strong! 🇬🇧 Did you know that the current Union Flag dates from the January 1st, 1801, with the Act of Union 1800? It merged the Kingdom of Ireland and the Kingdom of Great Britain to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. #FortHenry
Today from the Archives, we bring you Curator Alex McLean to introduce #FortHenry’s new exhibit opening this summer - The Kingston Gunner! 🙌
It is an exhibit presented in a partnership between the Royal Canadian Artillery Museum, Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Manitoba. The exhibit gives a glimpse into the vast history of artillery in Colonial Canada and how artillerymen shaped the course of modern Canadian artillery. Kingston’s role as a garrison for the Royal Artillery paved way for the development of the modern Canadian Artillery while shaping the course of Canadian history through Confederation and beyond. The lives and careers of four officers who were integral in the development of Canada’s artillery are examined as well as artifacts from the RCA Museum pertaining to the First World War.
